| A little about me:
I grew up in Philomath, Oregon. I was one of those kids that always
wanted a horse but couldn't have one. I read every horse book I
could find in the public and school libraries. My mother did indulge
my interest in photography by buying me my first manual SLR camera
while I was in High School and allowing me to charge-on-account
my film and developing at the local drug store.
While in high school, my interests expanded toward other things
such as boys, especially boys that had motorcycles. I took several
courses in photography while studying graphic design in college,
using my knowledge to photograph flat track and moto-cross races.
While in college I purchased my first semi-automatic SLR, a Canon
AE1. Ultimately, I ended up marrying a motorcycle racer and making
the big move five miles east to Corvallis, Oregon. We have one daughter,
Britney, who is now 24.
When
my daughter was young, she asked if she could take gymnastic lessons.
Being the bad mother that I am, I suggested horse riding lessons
instead even though she had never shown any interest in horses.
Just another parent living out their dreams via their child. Lessons
eventually ended up leading to owning our own horses. Currently,
my daughter has a 3/4 Arabian Pinto, Aur Ace High, that she has
shown to numerous PtHA year end awards, World Championships,
and Arab Regional Championships and Top Fives. My horse is a chestnut
overo Paint mare that I bred, Ima SplashaScotch, otherwise known
as Quinn. We primarily show our horses in western pleasure and hunt
seat classes. My daughter's horse show career re-ignited my interest
in photography with an emphasis on horses.
I have spent the last twenty-nine years working in the technology
field, currently as the Director of an Information Technology department
for a non-profit organization. My technical background made the
choice to go digital very logical. A computer geek always loves
an excuse to buy gadgets. I still have my old AE1 and an Elan7 as
backup cameras should my digital camera fail.
I've been photographing horses for my friends since 1997. Bit Photography
came to exist due to a web design class I took in 2000. One of our
assignments was to design a site for a business we were interested
in. I decided to finally stop talking about photography as a hobby
and actually pursue it as a part-time business.
I am available most weekends and after 5:00pm most weekdays. Arrangements
can be made to schedule shoots during the day on weekdays with enough
advance notice.
I utilize a Canon digital SLR camera along with Canon lenses. I
have a laptop computer that I bring with me to location shoots so
that photographs can be reviewed on the spot. I also make proofs
available on my web site for review and subsequent purchasing. Prints
are made with an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 printer using archival
quality inks and paper.
